Feeding baby 10听June 2004
Image: feeding frenzy
Should you allow your baby to feed herself from the family's normal food?

To a parent with a new baby, there's little more fraught an area to consider than what and where your baby eats.听

But now UNICEF is exploring a method where your baby gets to sit with you at meal times and can choose what she wants to eat from what's on offer.听It's thought that听the children from the age of six months fed themselves a lot earlier and were much less fussy. This, says UNICEF, cuts out the need for baby foods and encourages women to keep breast feeding for longer.

So does it really work and what are the pitfalls?听Jenni talks to Gill Rapley, Deputy Programme Director, UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative and to Annabel Karmel,听author of Feeding Your Baby and Toddler.
