The Continuum Concept 15听June 2004
Does its approach to childcare work?

In the 70s a book came out which caused a stir among those concerned with the rearing of children. Jean Liedloff spent time in South America and wrote The Continuum Concept based on her observations of mothers and babies there.

She declared that babies who wouldn't sleep were a result of our mistaken approach to childcare. Her solution was for mothers to sleep with their babies at night and to carry them all day while they got on with everyday life. 25 years later, the book has been published in 17 languages, and parents are still willing to give The Continuum Concept a try.

Claudia Hammond explored whether something that works for people living in the rainforest can really work here.

The Continuum Concept by Jean Liedloff is published by听Arkana, ISBN014019245X
