Maids and Mistresses: 4 27 September 2004
How three imposing women shaped the lives of those at Temple Newsam in Leeds

Over the last six months, seven of the north's great stately homes have been celebrating the contribution made by women to their history and development.

Whether as a servant or a Duchess their lives have formed part of the Maids and Mistresses Exhibition. And over the summer we've given you a taste of some of the women featured.

In the final part of the series we visit Temple Newsam in Leeds where three formidable women were key figures in the history of this great Tudor -Jacobean mansion. They were Viscountess Isabel, Viscountess Frances and the redoubtable Victorian ,Emily Ingram.

Janet Wilson spoke to the curator James Lomax about the women who shaped the fortune of the house.听
