Adventurer, archaeologist and Arabist

Gertrude Bell was an advisor to Lloyd George and Winston Churchill, a confidante of sheikhs in Iraq during the First World War, and a close friend of Lawrence of Arabia.

Martha talks to Gertrude's biographer Victor Winstone and discovers Bell's life and achievements, not least her role in choosing Iraq's first king and setting up the National Library and Museum in Baghdad.
