Sister Helen Prejean 13听Jan 2006
Leading opponent of the death penalty

Since capital punishment was reintroduced in the United States in 1976 over a thousand people have been executed. One of the country's leading opponents of the death penalty is Sister Helen Prejean a nun from Louisiana who rose to fame in 1993 with her best selling book Dead Man Walking which was then made into an Oscar-winning film starring Susan Sarandon. Sister Helen is still campaigning and tells Martha about her new book in which she examines the cases of two men who, she argues, were innocent of the crimes for which they were executed.

The Death of Innocents is published by Canterbury Press
