In 1922 Helena Normanton was called to the Bar of England and Wales, making her the first woman to practice as a barrister. She then went on to be the first woman to lead the prosecution in a murder trial, conduct a trial in America and to represent cases at the High Court and the Old Bailey. And in 1949, along with Rose Heilbron, she became the first woman King's Counsel.
Helena Normanton was also the first married woman to have a passport in her maiden name. She believed that women and men should keep their money and property separately and campaigned tirelessly to this end.
