SUICIDE

听Every year, six thousand people in the UK take their own life. The Government has pledged to reduce that number by a fifth by 2010. It's the most common form of death for young men and three quarters of those who do kill themselves have never visited a doctor or been diagnosed with a mental illness. Other high risk groups include doctors, who are twice as likely to kill themselves and Asian women between the ages of 16 and 24.

In the UK rates of suicide in the UK in men between the ages of 15 and 24 have doubled over the past decade. Here we hear from one young man who has attempted suicide on three occasions.

Mike Churchill and his wife had been married for 12 years. They led a normal busy, professional, life; Mike鈥檚 wife was a GP in Manchester and he was starting out in his own business. Last year Mike鈥檚 wife committed suicide and for the family it came as a shock.
