Biofuel
08/03/2010
Why is Morrisons reducing its sales of biofuel?

Biofuel is seen by many as a ‘greener’ option for filling up the car. The government was so keen to support this industry that they have been subsidising it by 20p a litre, a cost which has meant that biofuel can be sold at a similar price to other fuels such as unleaded petrol. But from April 1st, that 20p a litre subsidy disappears and, as a result, Morrisons have stopped selling one of their higher grade biofuels - B30 - a bio-diesel mix. Richard Taylor from Morrisons, explains his company’s decision and Andrew Davis from the Environmental Transport Association and Meredith Alexander from Action Aid discuss the future of biofuel on our forecourts and ask: Is putting this type of fuel into our cars a truly green option?
