A gem of a show



What an amazing response tonight. Feel free to post your memories of the neglected scottish bands on the blog. I will use them next time we do this show - and there will definitely be a next time! We were out the door with suggestions and some terrific e-mails and texts. The show was summed up by MG and Alan who said:

"Talk about bringing back memories - I can't believe how many of these songs that I still remember all the words to!! Our thoughts for tonight are: Texas Lullaby by James King & the Lone Wolves All I ever Wanted by Fruits of Passion Feels like Heaven by Fiction Factory You're Beautiful by Love & Money Chains by The River Detectives"

Jim McCabe texted to say he remembered "Slik played nearly every week at Clouds - 50p to get in."

Vince in Edinburgh texted in with his memories of Shabby Tiger: "I remember shabby tiger but did not see them live(thankfuly). They came out round about the same time as bilbo baggins who had a hit in 1978 with a record called shes gonna win.p.s.my favourite name for a band round about 78 was MATT VINYL and the DECORATORS but I dont think they even made a single."

Other suggestions included Chou Parrot, The Exploited, Nick Robertson and Slice, and the "totally under-rated" Close Lobsters suggested by Peter in Rutherglen: " Anything from them would be great - I really loved that band but haven't heard them for YEARS (as I 'lost' all my vinyl) except for over the tannoy in a shopping mall in Montreal of all places, when on honeymoon a few years ago."

Punkdad in Bothwell sent this impeccable list. Hope it brings back memories..

If you enjoyed hearing Endgames last night then you should take a look at their myspace page. It seems to suggest they are working on new material. Make sure you look at the band performing on German TV. It's wonderfully dated with clothes, haircuts and most of all dancing which could only have existed in the 80s.

Another great show, and another trip in my "get-it-on" time-machine. I had exactly the same response to the "Five Guys Named Moe" song as Bryan, I couldn't remember it until it was playing and suddenly I knew every word. This prompted me to go raking through my tape collection for one of my "copied off the radio" mix tapes I was very fond of in my late teens. Quickly I dug up one which seemed to be from Easter 1991. I stuck it on and heard Bryan's voice introducing the song, telling us to go buy the album and that the band would be playing in King Tut's the following month! On the short songs theme, please play "Short Songs" by the Dead Kennedys!
