Women experienced huge change in the sixties.
In 1961 the birth control pill was introduced. This allowed women to have more control over how many children they wanted and when they wanted to have them. Families became more compact - your brother or sister were nearer your own age and there probably weren't as many of you.

"The pill" also made it easier for women to have their own careers. They could have children early on and then begin a career or they could have a career early on before having children.

The sixties saw a big rise in the number of women going to work. They took more jobs in retail, admin and secretarial work alongside 'traditional' women's work like factory and cleaning work. Often their wage was seen as a 'top up' of their husband's earnings. They worked just as hard as men but were paid less!
