Hi Fred, love your photos as usual, also the silkies house. Did you make it? Rather splendid if I may say so. wouldn't mind one myself !!
Squidgy the Otter from Coll
I see you're keeping up the pace, Fred. Your chicken house looks quite palatial! Lucky chicks! I'm surprised that there isn't a Noodles sitting alongside, though, just to keep an eye on them.
Jill from EK
Squidgy, no I purchased the coop from a local Garden centre. Jill I think Noodles / Harris have got used to the chics being indoors, they really dont bother them, but If our back where turned who knows? Thanks for your comments
Fred from Point
That IS a palais des poulets! in fact, I'd near go as far as to say it's fit for a cat, what with the wee stepladder and the cosy quarters and all.
Flying Cat from forty shades of green
FC, it would certainly be fit for a cat with a few modifications - leave the wee door open at the bottom, install some soft cushions and heating. You could watch the world through the upper door. It would be even more cat-friendly if the chicks were left in as well, but you can't have everything. Noodles is obviously a Good Cat.
Jill from EK
FC is not asking for all the chicks to be left in, just some of them. Did you fasten the coop down? The winds, Fred, the winds ... Anyway, I did not see any nesting boxes: so, I expect you will want them in your soup before the year is out, eh? With a dash of soy sauce, a sliver of ginger and some shiitake mushrooms .... yummy.
mjc from NM,USA
Ooo stoppit mjc I'm drooling...and it's so undignified.
Flying Cat from Wok Ho!
LOL MJC trust you to notice, no it will have a nesting box, I like your recipe better than Green eggs and Ham? one of our (sarah and I) things this or next year when the kitchen is complete was to learn chinese cooking, as it does not taste quite right here? completly different version, and I used to own a restaurant in 1982 as a Hobby so I can cook.
Fred from Point
A restaurant as a hobby??? No wonder we're all gasping at the abnormal energy levels in this blog. I get worn out just reading it...
Flying Cat from under a duvet
What kind of restaurant was it, Fred old boy? Bang and Mash? not Vindaloo and Nan (nah, 1982 would be too early)? maybe Gyros and Heros? As to Chinese cooking, check out Fuchsia Dunlop books. Her books are what dreams are made of. She was also kind enough not to have any recipe for dog meat, but then, it may not have been delicacy so much as savvy marketing.
mjc from NM,USA
I can't see why not. I would eat dog...
Flying Cat from The Good Catfood Guide
mjc.......it was a bistro, and wine bar, when cocktails were the rage, we did anything from Venison in red wine to burgers with topping, steaks, Chilli, baked skin topping, we used to have a Phillipino chef, so special one off were good too. It was great fun, except I used to do 12 days on and 2 off, turn up at 11am and lock up at 1am.......long hours?
Fred from Sunny point
Fred definitely has supernatural powers. Working 12 days in a row of 14 hours, and he calls that a hobby? No wonder you get things done so quickly! I think you must be one of those lucky people who can manage on 3 hours' sleep. They certainly have some kind of biological bonus which passed me by completely!
Jill from EK
You mean like Maggie T?
Flying Cat from in hiding
'course you would, FC, preferably raw too, sushi style. That's what happened in Manchuria, when the Japanese landed: sushi style Shar-pei...
mjc from NM,USA
hey fred, maybe we should re-name you the 'dynamo' as you seem to gain more energy from doing more things!! LOL Sorry i havn't made it over yet, i've been struck down by the latest island bug thats going around and didn't want to bring it to you if you havn't got it yet...i didn't think you'd appreciate a cough with your bad back. Anyway i'm on the mend and will be over next week for definate. What day/time would be good for you?? I hope your physio went well and your feeling better, just make sure you rest for at least a day now and don't undo their work. Have a good weekend.
tanith from point
Hi Tanith, Physio went well no slipped disc Thank G/ness, I have to get next tuesday at 1pm, but anytime or day next week would be ok, hope you feel better soon.
fred from Back getting better
... and the man can cook too! Say, Fred, are you sure you would not want to move to southern Indiana? You could fix a barn we have, in ruinous state, on the property, and live in it. True there are some barn swallows, and two visiting red eagles, but eh, if they don't like it, they can always fly off and complain to Audubon Society, Greenpeace, the UN, and Osama, for all I care. How about it, Fred? I could use some manic, all-skills neighbors like you, though some of the current ones are quite versatile as well. I could teach you water dousing ... and, when the Sheriff comes, you can always dive into the Tornado Shed.
mjc from NM,USA
mjc.........sounds tempting lol, we could exchange on Chinese cooking tips too?
Fred from Point
mjc.....what a tempting invitation, not sure about the living quarters?
Fred from Point
Cooking? I am more into "crudities" (crudites, in the fast disappearing language across the English channel, sounds better somehow). As to accomodations, Fred, you missed the essential point that you would need to make the necessary repairs before the next monsoon/ hurricane season. The only cooking I do is direct from a book. My latest are Turkish as well as Lebanese/Syrian. More often, I just drool at the recipes and pictures, and forget to cook.
mjc from NM,USA
I've noticed mjc's occasional fondness for crudities...
Flying Cat from purrondering
Jabs, jibes, and double meanings - probably. But crudities? I think this charge is patently unfair, FC. (and there I was, ready to make bail for you!!). Surely you are getting my good name mixed up with Murdo John, Angus or some such from the Western Isles, Argyll and Clyde Islands etc?
mjc from NM, USA
I think you'll find Murdo John is a na茂f, a child of nature...several gugas short of a vomitarium...but crude? No, never!
