who are bloggers?

From todays Herald: "They're also, often by their own admission, exceptional ranters, grammar-shy backstabbers, self-aggrandising name-droppers, gossips, shameless narcissists or perpetrators of self-indulgent, impenetrable purple prose. All too infrequently, they're brilliant writers, brainstormers, mindbenders, sharp observers of human behaviour and essential information distributors.

They update their blogs weekly, daily, even hourly, and they do it because, well . . . why do they do it? Because diaries and biros don't have a cut-and-paste facility? Because they can't share their innermost ramblings with friends? Because they genuinely know something nobody else does and need to share it with the entire interweb populace? Unadulterated catharsis? Frustrated poets, essayists and novelists?
