I picked this up on a new media newsletter this morning: "Rural residents are facing long waits for broadband â€“ even when they have proven to BT that there is enough interest in their locality to make a service viable. Many of the latest batch of villages that BT has pledged to connect will have to wait until 2005 before their DSL link arrives. â€œBT has perhaps being caught out by the rapid rise in the rate at which exchanges have triggered, and this has led to some delays in the enabling system to date,â€ one broadband expert said."

Tobermory is getting Broadband in September and Fionnphort is getting it in August. Thats what I heard.

We have a small community with a poorly situated telephone exchange (between two villages - so neither village is fully within the 6km Broadband range). However, with HIE's encouragement, a broadband campaign was started locally and we were thrilled when we reached our trigger level. We were told to expect a ready for service date in mid-late summer 2004.

However, the RFS date has recently been announced as August 2005. A lot of places here have very poor dial-up connections and broadband is needed NOW.

Hi "fed up". Thanks for putting me right. I had seen the september but some how I missed the 05....... Can I call my self "fed up 2"?

We islanders should kick BT out, and get someone better with kind of Swedish telecommunications firm who would rip out the old ageing BT lines with the 21st century fibre optic cables that carry broadband speeds without any "must be 5 miles away from exchange" limits.

Am trying to get broadband through BT but so far no luck. Has anyone yet succeded. It is now late September and we are told it would be available 7th September
