Haven't seen any as yet but I'm ever hopeful. There was once a processing factory here at Carradale where basking sharks were hunted and processed for their valuable oil. Cheers Gary

I was on a whale watching trip based at Tobermory in mid August, we saw numerous porpoise, a minke whale, and best of all 3 basking shark, one over 8m. We spent over an hour near the sharks, waiting for them to come to us, hopefully. I was amazed by the blackness and the size of the fins coming out of the water, and the distance to the nose which was sometimes clearly visible. Eventually one came right along the side of the boat, it was a baby only about 4-5m, about the size of a small tank or a adult great white. I saw the white of the gape first, and then because of the clarity of the water saw all the dapples of the ripples on it's back as it passed submerged. Wow!
