Pupils in year eight at Corbet School in Baschurch are fed up with the amount of litter left by other students. After break and lunchtime their school playground is covered in crisp packets, sweet wrappers and plastic bottles. So as part of 大象传媒 School Report they wanted to investigate why so much litter is left by their fellow students and what can be done to reduce it.
Help playing audio/video Year eight's Maeve, Emi, Wynnie, Lewis, Henry and James talked to fellow pupils and interviewed school caretaker Mr Nell, Sue Jellyman from Shropshire Waste partnership and their head teacher Mr Thompson to get to the bottom of their rubbish problem. Tim Sneddon, Street Scene Manager at North Shropshire District Council believes that clearing up the litter could help the school as a whole: "I think that the environment that you're in will affect your mood." They found that although their school does have a litter problem, it isn't as bad as many other schools in the county. They also found that an additional plastic bottle recycling bin, placed in their playground, could reduce the amount of plastic bottles dropped on the ground. Mr Thompson, Head of the Corbet School, has given permission for them to have a plastic bottle recycling bin, which will be ordered and fitted soon. last updated: 13/03/2008 at 18:26 SEE ALSOYou are in: Shropshire > School Report > Clearing up Corbet |
