The shows host, Prem Kumar (Anil Kapoor) has little sympathy for his young contestant. Having moved up the career ladder the hard way, Prem has no intention of sharing the millionaire limelight with a slum kid.
But when the show runs out of time and breaks for the night, Prem has the police on standby to arrest Jamal. He is accused of cheating. How could a street kid know so much?
Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells his life鈥檚 story in the slums where he and his brother grew up.
Jamal reveals their adventures together on the rough streets of Mumbai and also talks about his love for childhood sweetheart, Latika whom he has lost contact with many years ago.
Each chapter in Jamal鈥檚 life relates to the answer to one of the game show's questions.
Intrigued by Jamal's story, the police inspector (Irfan Khan) begins to wonder what a young man with no apparent desire for the riches, is really doing on this game show?

Slumdog Millionaire is directed by Danny Boyle of the Trainspotting and 28 Days Later fame. The story has been written by Simon Beaufoy (The Full Monty).
The film has already won many critics awards and has brought instant fame to British director Danny Boyle. His film is already a strong contender for the Oscars in various categories听 next month.
Along with Boyle, British actor, Dev Patel has also been catapulted into the limelight by getting the much needed recognition as an actor.
Musical score by A R Rahman of the Bombay Dreams fame and a musical maestro for many Bollywood movies, has also been appreciated. Slumdog Millionaire releases in UK cinemas this week.
