Searching for bugs at Shropshire Wildlife Trust

A bug hunt for aspiring Darwins

Shropshire Wildlife Trust is inviting young Darwins join them at their Shrewsbury headquarters to search for Monsters in your Garden as part of this year's Darwin Festival.

Young naturalists are invited to go to Shropshire Wildlife Trust's headquarters and search for the creatures that fascinated Charles Darwin as a youngster. Monsters in your Garden is one of the events organised for children as part of this year's Darwin Festival.

Kate Purslow, the senior manager at the trust headquarters in Abbey Foregate, said last year's event had been very successful with both the morning and afternoon sessions well attended.

Children aged between five and 12 can go on a minibeast safari in the trust's gardens in search of scary looking creep crawlies. There will be a pond dipping session as well. Later the youngsters can make a bug of their own to take home.

The sessions are under the direction of education officers, Helen Trotman and Melanie Heath.

Kate Purslow said "There will be quite a lot of bug hunting going on in the garden and lots of exploration, just like young Darwin."

Monsters in your Garden takes place at half term on 20 February. Tickets can be obtained from the Wildlife Trust headquarters, or by calling 01743 284 280.
