Love Aaj – the concept of love depicted in today’s modern times based in London, San Francisco.
Jai and Meera are a modern day couple living life to the fullest in London. They are very happy with each other’s company but at the same time do not believe in tying each other down.
That’s because Jai is a non-believer of fairy tale love stories like Romeo and Juliet. He is more practical minded when it comes to relationships. So when life pulls them in different directions, they decide to go with the flow.
Love Kal – focuses on how love was interpreted back in the 1960s based in Delhi and Calcutta.
When Veer Singh sets eyes on beautiful Harleen, he falls head over heels in love with her. Soon after, he stands under a tree promising to be with his love forever – even in their next birth.
He travels thousands of miles by train to stand under her balcony only to have a glimpse of her face. And yet not speak a word to her.
Love Aaj Kal –
Veer does not understand how Jai can treat matters of the heart without passion, like a financial transaction. Jai does not understand how Veer Singh could have been so naïve and silly about Harleen in the days of his youth.
But as both stories unfold, we realise the process of relationship is diverse in different eras, but the experience of being in love remains the same.
People who experience love in this day and age often witness the fun, frolic but it is short-livedÌý because of the despair of modern living. It also depicts liberation and confusion.
Meanwhile people who were born 40 years ago experience a different kind of love. For them it was a time of innocence and compulsion as fondness increased with distance and separation.
Love Aaj Kal spans two time periods (1965 and 2009) and four different cities.
We see the grandeur of Delhi and Calcutta of the 1960s and modern day life in London and San Francisco.
The movie sees Saif Ali Khan making his producer’s debut. He is also paired up with Deepika Padukone for the very first time on screen which will be refreshing to see.
The film is directed by Imtiaz Ali whose last release Jab We Met turned out to be a surprise hit at the UK box office.
So judging by his directorial caliber Love Aaj Kal will also fare well at the UK box office upon release.
