Director: Abhishek Chaubey
Cast: Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah
The rural landscape of Uttar Pradesh, India, forms the backdrop of this thriller. It focuses on the romance between two individuals caught in a web of crime, suspense, passion and deceit.
Two thieves, Khalujan (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi), are on the run from their boss, Mushtaq (Salman Shahid). They seek refuge in the house of an old friend only to find that he is dead. His widow Krishna (Vidya Balan), decides to help them out.
As they plan their escape, their time spent together draws the duo to her - Khalujan with his vision of old-fashioned love and Babban with his lustful eye. The threat of imminent death soon forces them on a path of violence and betrayal.
Vidya Balan of the Heyy Babyy fame is seen playing a scheming character who traps these men into an intricate web of romance. Balan is seen playing a sensuous character – a role so different from her normal Bollywood glamour image.
Ishqiya is being directed by Vishal's assistant, Abhishek Chaubey.
The movie employs strong language which some audiences may find offensive. But this cannot be avoided as it forms the integral part of the on screen narration.
The film will release in January 2010 in UK cinemas with a predicted BBFC certificate of 15 due to the nature of the story.
