Pinjar
(meaning skeleton) focuses on a small family, headed by Mohanlala
and Tara.
They
have two daughters, Puro (Urmila) and Rajjo (Isha Koppikar)
and son Trilok (Priyanchu).
Puro
is eagerly awaiting her marriage to Ramchandra (Sanjay Suri),
the man of her dreams.
But
on the eve of her wedding day, Puro is kidnapped and raped
by Rashid (Manoj Bajpai), an angry Muslim youth.
Later,
Rashid realises his mistake and asks for forgiveness. But
Puro refuses to have anything to do with him.
When
Puro returns home, she faces the wrath of her parents.
They
ask her to leave their home for fear of losing their honour
and status in the village community.
Further revelations shocks a heartbroken Puro. She learns
that her younger sister, Rajjo is wedded to Ramchandra.
With nowhere to turn, a devasted Puro returns to Rashid to
start a new life.They
both get married and gradually become close.
How
their love survives the various religious traditions and help
other girls in similar situation as themselves, forms the
crux of Pinjar.
The
film has been shot in the village of Shriganganagar in Rajasthan
to give it a real earthy feel of the old Punjab.
The
film is slated for an October 2003 release. |
