This film was screened at UCI Telford in Shropshire on Sunday 31st Jan at 1.00p.m. and Monday 1st Feb 2004 at 8.30p.m.

Munna left his village 15 years ago due to his disciplinarian father, Hari Prasad Sharma.

Mr Sharma wants his son to become a doctor, but Munna has no intentions of joining the medical profession.

Constantly taunted by his father, Munna decided to move to Mumbai.

He becomes known as Munnabhai, a small time conscientious gangster, earning his wage fighting the corrupted rich. He is helped by his sidekick, Circuit (Arsha Warsi).

Thinking their son to be a highly paid doctor, both his parents pay him a visit on an annual basis.

So on each occasion, Munna's habitat gets converted into a clinic.

On each occasion, his mates are transformed into patients whilst Munna plays the role of a doctor.

This escapade continues for many years, until Mr Sharma meets his old friend Dr. Asthana.

They think it's a good idea to get their children married off to each other since they are in the same medical profession.

So Mr Sharma makes an unscheduled trip to Mumbai to convey the good news to his son. But that's when he learns the truth about Munna.

Totally heartbroken, Mr Sharma returns to his village.

Seeing his dad in this state, Munna decides to fullfill his father's dream by trying his hand at doctoring for real.

Being a small time crook, he cheats his way into medical college. And this is when all the fun starts.

Using his basic instincts, Munna wins the love of everyon at the medical institute. He introduces the 'magic hug' to a terminally ill patient. He even prevents a young teenager from committing suicide.

He succeeds in making radical changes to the medical profession which in turn makes Mr Sharma proud.

Debutant director Raj Kumar Hirani succeeds in making the audience laugh. He manages to evoke laughter not only from Sanjay Dutt but also from all the other co-stars. There is never a dull moment.

The film, although a comedy, does touch your heart. We learn that doctors are human after all. Like us, they too need time to recuperate so as to cope with the daily grind of their profession.

The film succeeds due to its screenplay and witty dialogues. But one comment must be made here.

Some UK audience will find the jokes too hard to digest as they are based on the Mumbai Hindi dialect.

Sanjay Dutt comes up trumps. He plays the role of the gangster, the touching son and a caring doctor with great conviction.

Veteran actor Sunil Dutt feels at home on the big screen, considering that he is making a comeback after more than a decade.

The rest of the cast supports well due to the director's well written script.

Overall MBBS is a great comedy. You will come out of the auditorium smiling and contented.

If you are looking for a film to laugh about, then MBBS is just the medicine you need this Christmas period!
