This
film focuses on Karan Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan) who works for a newspaper
company as a cartoonist. Hum and Tum are his characters
which are published on a regular basis.
The
film opens at Mumbai airport where Karan and Rhea meet for the first
time. Their plane is bound for New York.
Whilst
Rhea's mother, Parminder (Kirron Kher), is busy praying for their
safe air travel, her daughter Rhea is found seated next to Karan.
He
is accompanied by his mum Anu (Rati Agnihotri) and best friend Mihir
(Jimmy Sergill).
The
silence is broken between these two characters when the aircraft
takes off. But they soon find out that they have nothing in common
- they are total opposites.
During
their stopover in Amsterdam, they explore the city and try to discuss
their differences.
But
just at an importuned moment, Karan innocently kisses Rhea. An angry
Rhea responds with a slap. They both part on a very sour note.
Three
months later, they once again bump into each other in New York.
But this time Karan is with his girlfriend Shalini (Shenaz).
As
all three get acquainted, the girls find that they have been going
to the same school during their childhood days.
So
this prompts Rhea to tell Shalini all about the Amsterdam episode.
Unfortunately this tale ends Karan and Shalini's relationship.
Three
months down the line, Karan is back in Delhi with his mum. He is
asked to help out at a wedding celebration. But he is shocked to
find that the bride is none other than Rhea.
As
time passes by, Karan once again bumps into Rhea. Much to his dismay
he finds that her relationship has been broken.
But
as Rhea and Karan continue to meet during various stages of their
lives, they gradually become friends.
Karan
even tries fixing her up with his best friend, Mihir but as usual
nothing works out. Instead, Mihir gets engaged to Karan's friend
Diana (Isha Koppikar).
But
destiny has other plans for Karan and Rhea. Hum Tum reveals all.
Director
Kunal Kholi is in top form. He has managed to get the very best
from his main lead stars.
Technically
the film deserves full marks on the movie's presentation. Great
music and great cinematography adds value to the film.
Saif
Ali Khan is at his best especially in the comedy scenes. Rani Mukerjee
appears natural throughout the film. Her acting talents remind one
of her performance in Chalte Chalte.
Do
watch out for Kiron Kher. Whilst her character in Main Hoon Naa
was serious, in Hum Tum she makes us laugh as she tries to
use English words in her Punjabi conversation.
Guest
appearances by Abhishek Bachchan and Jimmy Sergill will also be
appreciated by the audience.
With
great performances, wonderful music and simple story makes Hum
Tum a excellent family entertainer all round.
With
school holidays at the moment, this film will act as a good past
time for both the parents and children.
Will
definitely do well at the UK box office. After all it's a Yash Raj
offering!
