Somerset's Baby Borrowers

A Wellington couple have taken part in a new documentary series which allows teenagers to practise being parents.

The Baby Borrowers on 大象传媒 THREE follows five teenage couples as they try out adult life, including 'parenting' babies and toddlers.

Speaking to 大象传媒 Somerset Sound's Jess Rudkin about the experience, Carl Elliot and Kayleigh Strawford said: "We had to look after children, plus go to work, pay rent and do the shopping - it was a complete adult life and a real learning curve."

The programme has caused controversy. Dr Michele Elliot from Kidscape - a child-protection charity - has branded The Baby Borrowers as "sick" and says the babies' real parents should be ashamed of themselves.

The producer of the programme, Richard McCerrow, says the documentary series is a unique and valuable insight, crucial in a country which has a big problem with teenage pregnancies.

What do you think? Would you 'lend' your baby to teenagers to practise being parents? Would you let a production company film the results to show on television?
