The Credit Crunch - all bad?

We hear all the time about the negative impact the state of the economy is having on our lives - but are there any positives to the Credit Crunch?... We want to hear your stories.

We're always hearing about pubs closing, house prices falling, the delay in regeneration projects, the rise in house repossessions because of the economical downturn - and the list goes on.

But it can't be bad news all round, can it?

We want to hear your stories about the Credit Crunch in South Yorkshire - things you've got cheap as a result, or other ways you've benefited from it.

For one thing, apparently there is less congestion on the roads now because of higher fuel prices. Presumably that's because people are either driving less or are using public transport more - or even walking? (Which is also good because it's healthy).

And apparently at car auctions people have started trading in their big 4x4s ("gas guzzlers") for smaller, more efficient cars with less of a tax bill - so that's a good thing for the environment, isn't it?

Also surely the decline in house prices is a good thing for first time buyers who do have enough money to afford a mortgage but couldn't afford an over-priced house a few months ago?

Plus people staying in Britain for their holidays - that must be good for our own tourist trade.

And just the fact that it's making us think about what we're buying - keeping our eyes out for a bargain instead of picking up any old loaf of bread/ box of washing powder/ jar of coffee off the shelf.

You tell us

So is everything really as bleak as it's made out to be in the media?

I am happy I found this website! I have to write an opinion piece for school, about the positive effects of the credit crunch. Thanks to Steve Nichols & his parrots I've got inspiration again!

I've recently bought myself a mountain bike. I still have a car but I rarely use it. Tackling the hills of South Yorkshire means I can shift the fat too, well hopefully. Only time will tell!Me and my friends have also stopped meeting in town, instead we now go to each others houses and drink there. It's much much cheaper and going into town is now only for special occasions.
