Dame
Diana Rigg is a lady whose enduring charms have cut across the generations
with almost boundless ease.
I wonder
whether Uma Thurman's performance in the recent big screen adaptation
of The Avengers will be remembered so fondly in 30 years' time.
Of
course, it's the role of Emma Peel in that 60s TV show that Diana
will be forever famous for.
As
the all-action, cat-suited Mrs. Peel, she was a resounding success,
as notable for her wonderfully English performance as for her undoubtedly
resonant sex appeal.

Dame
Diana Rigg as Mrs Bradley |
A South
Yorkshire girl by birth (Doncaster 1938), Diana Rigg was raised
from the ages of 2 - 8 in exotic India.
Upon
returning home she earned a place at the pretigious RADA drama school,
and the rest - as they say - is history.
Her
career included roles in the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret
Service', an appearance alongside the Muppets in 'The Great Muppet
Caper', various stints treading the boards (she was a noted Shakespearian
actress) and even an American sitcom, ‘Diana’.
Although
she hit a peak in the late 60s and early 70s, she has found an Indian
summer in recent years, with books and acting roles, including 'The
Mrs Bradley Mysteries', gaining her even more plaudits.
On
top of this, the timeless beauty that is Diana Rigg recently triumphed
in a poll of the sexiest women of all time.
Dame
Diana, we salute you.
