Shinty: Kingussie triumph in Macaulay Cup final

Kingussie overcame a first-half setback to defeat holders Oban Camanachd 4-1 in the Artemis Macaulay Cup final at Mossfield Park.

The Badenoch side remain on course for a clean sweep of all four of shinty鈥檚 major honours.

A 4-3 stoppage-time win for Lochaber at home to Kyles saved the Spean Bridge club from confirmed Mowi Premiership relegation. Already relegated Glenurquhart slumped 5-1 away to Kyles and Newtonmore edged Lovat 1-0.

In the National Division, Fort William and Glasgow Mid Argyll鈥檚 promotion charges continued with 2-0 defeats of Kilmallie and Inveraray, respectively.

Craig MacMillan gave Camanachd a half-time lead but the second half had barely begun when James Falconer levelled. Top scorer Dylan Borthwick sent Kingussie in front and both players completed doubles as Kingussie added this trophy to the MacTavish Cup. They also lead the Premiership and meet Lovat in the Camanachd Cup final on 21 September.

Scott MacDonald and Connor Kennedy helped Kyles race into an early 2-0 lead but Shaun Nicholson and Ben MacDonald levelled the game before half-time. Luke Thornton put Kyles ahead again before MacDonald鈥檚 second equaliser and Ben Delaney鈥檚 91st-minute winner.

Two each from Donald Nixon and Archie MacRae bracketing a goal from Ali Nixon put Kinlochshiel out of sight at Drumnadrochit. Alfie MacLeod got a late consolation for Glenurquhart.

An early Joe Coyle goal sealed both points for Newtonmore.

Cam Stephen and Lachie Shaw scored in the first half for Fort while Craig Anderson found the net before and after the interval for Mid Argyll. Four points now separate Fort William, Mid Argyll - who have a game in hand - and Inveraray, all contesting the second promotion place behind Beauly.

Col Glen edged Bute 2-1.
