Kell Brook gained a sixth-round stoppage win against Frankie Gavin in London in May

Great Britain's Kell Brook will make the third defence of his IBF world welterweight title against Argentine Diego Chaves on 24 October.

The fight will take place at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield and comes after Brook, 29, defeated fellow Briton Frankie Gavin in London in May.

"Chaves is a rough, tough, durable fighter who is dangerous," said Brook.

"This will be my third defence in seven months but a busy fighter is a happy fighter and I'm very happy."

Chaves, who has held the interim WBA world title, has won 23 of 26 professional contests and is confident of ending Brook's unbeaten record of 35 wins from 35 fights.

"Brook's not a fast fighter. He is easily bothered by body punches, and that is one of our strengths," said Chaves.

"We're going to test his punching power too, because the opponents he chooses have not been such great punchers as the ones I have faced lately."

A Brook win could lead to a much-anticipated fight against fellow Briton Amir Khan in 2016.

Brook added: "I've seen some of Chaves's quotes and it's interesting to see he thinks he can over-run me.

"Fighters don't realise how big I am and how sharp and accurate I punch. I'm looking to make a major statement against him."
