Ryan Sidebottom took seven wickets as relegation-haunted Yorkshire beat Somerset at Headingley to throw up slim hopes of beating the drop.

After bowling out Somerset for 132, Sidebottom taking a career-best 7-37, Yorkshire were set 203 to win.

The Tykes got there in comfort on 205-4, Jonny Bairstow (53no), Joe Root (46), Anthony McGrath (44) and Joe Sayers (35) all weighing in.

But, if Worcestershire pick up a point next week, Yorkshire still go down.

Yorkshire, who have now finished their fixtures, must watch from afar as Worcestershire start their final game on Monday at Chester-le-Street against title-chasing Durham.

Even so, Yorkshire could not have wished for a better end to their campaign.

They polished off the last four Somerset wickets for the addition of only eight runs in the morning and then cantered to their target with 22 overs to spare, three of the wickets being claimed by the unstoppable Sidebottom, who finished with match figures of 11-98.

It was the third time that he has enjoyed a match haul of 10 wickets or more and his 63 wickets in the season is easily a personal best.

Furthermore, Sidebottom's match analysis was the best by a Yorkshire bowler at Headingley since he himself grabbed 11-43 against Kent 11 years ago.
