England batsman Eoin Morgan will have an operation on a broken right finger on Friday.
Morgan, 26, suffered the injury during the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa on 19 June and had attempted to play through the pain.
The Middlesex left-hander pulled out of Thursday's second Twenty20 international against New Zealand and will be sidelined for several weeks.
Dublin-born Morgan has scored 2,899 runs in one-day international cricket.
He is a key player in the England limited-overs set-up and captained the Twenty20 team in Tuesday's defeat to New Zealand, which came 48 hours after he played in the Champions Trophy final loss to India.
Morgan has also played 16 Tests, scoring 700 runs at an average of 30.43 - including two hundreds.
