Worcestershire seam bowler Ed Barnard has become the latest player to agree a new contract with the county.

Barnard, 19, has been a regular in one-day cricket in his debut season at New Road and played his maiden first-class match against Hampshire in June.

"I am thrilled. Worcestershire is a great place to play," said Barnard, who has signed a three-year deal until the end of the 2018 season.

"I'm delighted to sign and I see myself playing here for a long time."

Barnard is the third Worcestershire player to extend a contract in the last week, following wicketkeeper/batsman Joe Clarke and big-hitting left-hander Ross Whiteley.

Ed Barnard's breakthrough season

A graduate of the club's academy, Shropshire-born Barnard made his debut against Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast group stages on 22 May. In 14 games, he took six wickets with an economy rate of 8.58.

He has played two first-class matches, taking three wickets against Hampshire on debut and two against Nottinghamshire.

Barnard struck his first senior half-century (51) in the One-Day Cup game against Somerset in July and has picked up 11 List A wickets.

"I've been happy with the way I've played this season and it's been good to get a reward with a new contract," Barnard added.

"We've shown throughout the season that the youngsters are very strong here and we've got a good nucleus of players that hopefully in the next three or four years will be challenging for titles and trophies."

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes added: "Ed is another product of our academy which is testament again to the work by the coaches.

"As a 19-year-old, he has played every one-day game this year which is a remarkable effort from him.

"He is multi-skilled with bat and ball and in the field and I'm looking forward to working with him over this next three years and trying to enhance such a bright prospect."
