Jonathan Trott signs extension to remain Afghanistan head coach throughout 2024
Former England batter Jonathan Trott has signed a contract extension to stay as Afghanistan coach for 2024 after their strong showing at the World Cup.
Afghanistan had only won one World Cup match prior to the 2023 tournament but finished sixth in India with four wins from nine matches.
There had still been speculation Trott could leave after 18 months in charge.
Instead, he will lead Afghanistan, who are in United Arab Emirates for a T20 series, at the T20 World Cup in June.
They also play three T20s in India later this month before touring Sri Lanka for three T20s, three one-day internationals and a Test match.
Trott took charge of Afghanistan in 2022 to replace another former England international, Graham Thorpe, who was admitted to hospital with a serious illness.
Afghanistan have also won a T20 series against Pakistan and an ODI series against Bangladesh under Trott.
