Derbyshire have signed Australian opening batter Caleb Jewell for the 2025 season.

Jewell plays for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield - Australia's first-class cricket competition - and in 50-over cricket, along with representing Hobart Hurricanes in T20 league the Big Bash, while he has also been called-up for Australia A.

鈥淭here are plenty of Australian players who have made their mark in England and I want to be next.

"I鈥檓 excited to work with the coaching set-up at Derbyshire, to take my game to the next level, and play alongside the quality group of players at the club.鈥

Jewell has experience in English conditions, having recently spent time playing club cricket with Doncaster Town.

He is Derbyshire's second signing for 2025, following the signing of all-rounder Martin Andersson.

Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur said: 鈥淲e have recognised that our batting line-up needed reinforcement, across all formats, and having Caleb here for the full season will allow us to build that consistency we need. He will bring real grit to the top of the order.鈥

Derbyshire are bottom of Division Two, on 110 points, and are set to play Leicestershire on Thursday, concluding the 2024 County Championship season.
