World Aquatics Championships 2024: Great Britain win gold and silver medals on day one

Tom Daley and Andrea Spendolini Sirieix scored 76.80 for their 10m mixed synchro dive to claim gold for Great Britain
Great Britain have won gold and silver medals on the opening day of the World Aquatics Championships.
Tom Daley, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, Daniel Goodfellow and Scarlett Mew Jensen scored 421.65 points in the mixed team event and claimed the first gold medal in Doha.
Grace Reid then celebrated silver in the women's 1m springboard final.
Reid, 27, was in sixth place before her final dive scored 58.50 and boosted her into a medal place with 257.25 overall.
Australia's Alysha Koloi took gold, while Maha Amer claimed Egypt's first ever diving medal at a world championships.
"It feels a bit surreal at the moment, but I'm honestly just delighted," said Reid, who won silver in the mixed 3m synchro alongside Daley in 2017.
In the mixed team event, Daley, Spendolini-Sirieix, Goodfellow and Mew Jensen combined across six dives to finish top of the leaderboard.
Mexico were awarded the silver medal, with Australia's quartet taking bronze.
Daley, who is competing internationally for the first time in over two years, said the strength of British diving right now is "absolutely incredible".
The 29-year-old stepped away from the sport after winning gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the men's synchronised 10m platform event.
"I was so terrified," said Daley. "But it feels good to be back out there and competing again.
"To do it alongside this team has just been amazing. I didn't quite expect that it was going to be the gold medal, but it's a great way to start the competition."
Each team was required to perform one individual dive per team member, plus a 3m synchro and 10m synchro dive.
Randal Willars Valdez scored 98.40 with his 10m platform dive to hand Mexico the lead, before Daley and Spendolini-Sirieix produced the highest-scoring 10m synchro dive to seal gold for GB.
"I'm always honoured to dive alongside these guys," said 19-year-old Spendolini-Sirieix.
"I looked up to Tom my whole diving career, so to be able to dive alongside him is just incredible,
"I've learned a lot even from training, so he's helped me a lot already. I really enjoyed that, I love these guys, they are my family."
The World Aquatics Championships take place from 2-18 February.
