Glasgow City suffered a humiliating 10-0 defeat at Potsdam in the Women's Champions League.

Germany's top team won the first leg of the last 16 tie with ease, as Anja Mittag scored a hat-trick.

Next week's second leg in Glasgow will be a formality for Potsdam as the Scottish champions look to restore a vestige of pride.

Potsdam have a strong record in the competition, winning it in 2009-10 and finishing as last season's runners-up.

As well as Mittag's three goals, there were two apiece for Genoveva Anonma and Yuki Nagasato, and over the 90 minutes the number of shots at goal was 29-3 in Potsdam's favour.

The other scorers were Bianca Schmidt, substitute Chantal de Ridder and, with an own goal to complete the rout, City substitute Amy McDonald.

City are the first Scottish side to reach the last 16 of European football's top club competition.

Glasgow defeated Valur Reykjavic 4-1 on aggregate in the previous round and have since retained their Scottish Women's Premier League title and will have the chance to win the domestic double when they face Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final.
