Max Clayton must adapt to senior football - Steve Davis
Crewe manager Steve Davis has said Max Clayton must adapt to the more physical nature of senior football after making his first league start at Bradford.
Clayton, 17, struggled to make an impact as the Alex were beaten 3-0.
"He couldn't really cope with it and he's got to learn how to," Davis told 大象传媒 Radio Stoke.
"He's got to get his first touch away from big centre-halves so that he doesn't find himself up against them and fighting with them."
The Crewe boss added: "I'm pleased that he's made his full debut. I had no hesitation in picking him and giving him that opportunity."
England Under-18 international Clayton has impressed in a series of cameo appearances for the first team as a substitute this season and has been in excellent form for the reserves.
With Shaun Miller suspended for another two matches following his red card against Crawley on 17 December, Clayton may be given another chance in the game at Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
