Leeds United have extended veteran goalkeeper Maik Taylor's contract until the end of the season.

The 40-year-old Northern Ireland international was initially signed last November on a short-term deal, although he has not played a competitive game.

But manager Simon Grayson has decided he wants to keep Taylor at Elland Road.

"Maik has got good experience to be in and around the squad and if anything happens to Andy Lonergan, Maik can step in," Grayson told the club website.

Taylor's career has taken him to a number of clubs including Fulham and Birmingham and he has also won 88 international caps, the most recent against Italy last year.

He earned a chance with Leeds by playing in a behind-closed-doors game against Chelsea and saving a penalty.
