Derby 1-0 Nott'm Forest

  • Published

Jake Buxton's late goal gave Derby victory over local rivals Nottingham Forest in a feisty encounter.

Buxton rose highest to nod in Ben Davies' cross five minutes in to 10 of stoppage time to leave Forest hovering over the relegation zone.

Forest had been reduced to 10 men when Marcus Tudgay was shown a second yellow card for a lunge on Davies.

The lengthy period of added time came after Derby captain Shaun Barker picked up a serious-looking injury.

Derby look destined for a mid-table finish, but this dramatic victory game them their first double over their closest rivals for 40 years.

Former Forest man Nathan Tyson had an opportunity to open his Rams account with the best chance of a poor first half but he dragged his shot wide.

There was plenty of endeavour on show but both sides were devoid of ideas, before tensions almost boiled over when Dexter Blackstock scythed down Davies, resulting in a melee just in front of the technical areas. Only Blackstock was booked.

Rams skipper Barker was then carried off and Forest were almost in front moments later when Tudgay headed Andy Reid's inviting free-kick just wide.

But Tudgay was then given his marching orders for a wild lunge on Craig Bryson and there was more drama to come as Buxton headed home an inviting free-kick to secure a dramatic victory.
