Coventry 1-0 Bournemouth

Coventry City earned their first home win under new manager Mark Robins to climb out of the League One relegation zone.

Striker David McGoldrick's second goal of the season on the hour proved enough to beat managerless Bournemouth.

His shot into the bottom left corner handed a fourth straight defeat to the Cherries, who sacked Paul Groves on Wednesday.

It was the Sky Blues' first home league win since 24 March.

Coventry boss Mark Robins told ´óÏó´«Ã½ Coventry & Warwickshire:

"It was a game that was there for the taking and we didn't look like we were going to do that - it looked like we needed to put more tempo into it.

"The first half was really lacklustre but, in the second half, we needed the spark, Callum Ball gave us the spark and David McGoldrick got his toe on it. An unbelievable goal. To execute that kind of pass, that was a terrific ball.

"In the second half, we stretched the opposition and created a number of opportunities. But, at the end of it, we stumbled to a win, and we'll take that.

"I still want us to be more clinical. We've got to be better and the next two games coming up are going to test us. But we'll build on that as we go. It's a platform - two clean sheets and seven points out of nine."

Bournemouth first team coach Dennis Rofe told ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Solent:

Cherries must take chances - Rofe

"I thought it was a very even game in truth, I thought we did exactly what we set out to do in the first half.

"We had some opportunities to score which obviously has been the story of our season and we need to take those chances.

"I thought the players put in a real good shift for the club and the supporters and we have to be thankful for that."
