Glasgow City secured a sixth successive Scottish Women's Premier League title with an 8-1 demolition of title rivals Hibernian in Broxburn.

Yet City head coach Eddie Wolecki Black had rested several players ahead of Wednesday's Scottish Cup semi-final against the same opponents.

Black said: "We are delighted with the result. I am thrilled with the display.

"We have suffered of late from missing a lot of chances, but today we managed to take them as the scoreline shows."

Scotland striker Jane Ross grabbed a hat-trick, Emma Fernon scored twice and there were also goals for Ashley McDonald, Eilish McSorley and the returning Sue Lappin.

Midfielder Lappin is back at the club for whom she is the record goalscorer after two seasons in the English Super League with Liverpool then Chelsea.

It was Glasgow's 18th victory in 19 league games this season - their only defeat being the result of their 5-0 win over Forfar Farmington being overturned because of fielding an ineligible player.

Hibs, whose last-minute consolation goal was scored by Rebecca Zoltie, had been sitting second, 12 points behind, going into their home game against the reigning champions but have now slipped to fourth.

Forfar move into second place, two points ahead of Hibs, after a 3-2 win away to Spartans courtesy of an Aimee Godfrey hat-trick.

Celtic are fifth after hammering Aberdeen 7-0, with Suzanne Grant grabbing a hat-trick and Abigail Harrison contributing a double.

Hamilton Accies lead the bottom section following the league split after their 3-0 win over Falkirk, while Hutchison Vale beat bottom side Kilmarnock 6-2 and Inverness City recorded a 1-0 win away to Rangers.
