Shrewsbury Town midfielder Luke Summerfield will be out until well into the New Year after being told he needs a hernia operation.

The 25-year-old summer signing has been almost an ever-present this season, having made 23 appearances since signing from Cheltenham Town.

However, after missing Saturday's 2-1 win over Carlisle, he will undergo an operation early next week.

Summerfield is expected to be out for between three to six weeks.
