Chelsea, Newcastle and Spurs wait for Europa League draw

Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle will discover their Europa League quarter-final opponents on Friday.

The trio of Premier League clubs booked their places in the final eight in dramatic style on Thursday evening.

Spurs survived an Inter Milan fightback to progress on the away-goals rule, while Chelsea saw off Steaua Bucharest and Newcastle beat Anzhi Makhachkala.

"We are happy to go through. We look forward to the draw," Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas.

The Europa League draw follows the Champions League equivalent, which starts at 11:00 GMT in Nyon.

Newcastle left it late to beat 10-man Anzhi, with Papiss Cisse scoring the only goal of the tie in the 93rd minute to keep them on course for a first major trophy in 44 years.

Chelsea were at risk of going out but beat Steaua 3-1 on the night, with Fernando Torres scoring the third and then missing a penalty. The Spaniard's strike secured a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Earlier, Spurs lost their second leg at the San Siro 4-1 after extra time but Emmanuel Adebayor's away goal was enough to send them through as they won the first leg 3-0.

England do not have a team in the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since the 1995-96 season after Manchester United and Arsenal were knocked out at the last-16 stage, while Scottish representatives Celtic were eliminated by Juventus.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger responded to seeing his side lose out to Bayern Munich on away goals by saying it is a "massive wake-up call" that no English clubs made it through to the quarter-finals.
