AFC Telford: Moogan & Benjamin join migration from Southport

New AFC Telford United boss Liam Watson has made two more signings from former club Southport.

Alan Moogan, 29, has joined as player-coach, the same role he occupied at Haig Avenue last season, and Watson has also brought in midfielder Russell Benjamin, 21, on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Southport have added highly-rated Stafford Rangers youngster Luke George to their squad.

The versatile 20-year-old can play in defence or midfield.

Manager Alan Wright told the club website: "Luke has a great attitude and potential. His style will really fit in with my plans."

Watson left Southport at the end of last season to take charge of Telford.

He has since made 13 signings, nine of whom have played under him at Southport in the past.

Watson is looking to lead the Bucks to promotion back to the Conference Premier at the first attempt following relegation last season.

His first two recruits from his old club were Sean Clancy and Simon Grand.

He then signed two players from Chester, striker Tony Gray and midfielder Matty McGinn, but both had previously had spells at Haig Avenue.

Next to arrive was Mansfield Town defender Andy Owens, who spent last term on loan with the Sandgrounders, and last week he signed defenders Neill Byrne and Chris Lever on one-year deals, after their contracts with Southport came to an end.

Watson has also brought in two men to join his backroom team, physio Chris Roberts, who also arrives from Southport, and goalkeeping coach Andy Pryce.

The only new faces with no prior connection to Southport are another Chester player, Wes Baynes, former Skelmersdale United winger Mike Phenix, and two players from AFC Fylde, forward Adam Farrell and winger Sean Cooke.
