Stephen Ward: Brighton's style a factor in loan move
Stephen Ward says Brighton's style of play was a major reason in his decision to join on loan from Wolves.
The 28-year-old left-back made his debut for the Seagulls in their 1-0 win at Birmingham on Saturday.
He told 大象传媒 Sussex: "From watching them last year and playing against them, it is a team I admire for how they play the game.
"Every footballer wants to play in a team that likes to pass the ball and keeps the ball."
He continued: "On the last day of the season they played us off the park [when Brighton beat Wolves 2-0 at the Amex Stadium]. It was one of the reasons I was really excited about the move.
"There are the players to get promoted here and there is no reason why we can't be up there challenging."
Ward, who joined Wolves from Bohemians in 2007, was not surprised he was allowed to leave Molineux following their relegation to League One.
"It was brewing in the summer and the manager [Kenny Jackett] said they wanted to bring a few of the younger lads through," the Republic of Ireland international said.
"I had a feeling it was going to happen. I have been there nearly seven years and have had some great times but back-to-back relegations is really tough.
"As a club they wanted to start again and freshen things up."
He added: "I felt I needed a fresh start and I am thankful Brighton gave me that. I hope I can repay their faith.
"I wish Wolves every success but now my focus is at Brighton and hopefully I can help the team go one better than last year."
