CHAN 2014: Congo earn victory over Ethiopia
- Published
Congo have virtually eliminated Ethiopia from the African Nations Championship after a 1-0 win on Friday.
Rudy Ndey's second-half strike gave Congo their first points of the competition and left Ethiopia bottom of Group C without a point.
Earlier, Libya came from behind to draw 1-1 with Ghana and remain top of the table on goal difference, with the sides level on four points.
Libya face Congo in the final group game, while Ghana play Ethiopia.
Congo emerged victorious from Friday's late game despite Ethiopia largely dominating proceedings.
Ethiopia were guilty of wasting chance after chance, striker Omod Omod wasting the best opening when he ran on to a through ball and beat the defender only to lose control of the ball and allow Congo goalkeeper Gildas Mouyaki to collect it.
And they were punished on 78 minutes when Ndey side-footed home after he was picked out by a pass from Hardy Binguila.
In Group C's other game, Yahaya Mohammed headed in Richard Mpong's free-kick after six minutes to put Ghana ahead.
But he missed several chances to add to his side's advantage and after the break Libya levelled when Faisal Ali scored from the penalty spot after Mohamed Ghanudi had been fouled by Nuru Sulley.
Ghana keeper Stephen Adams made a double save from El Gadi and Ghanudi late on as Libya pressed for a winner.
