Dunfermline Athletic 1-1 Rangers

  • Published

Champions Rangers completed their Scottish League One season unbeaten but had to settle for a draw against second-top Dunfermline Athletic.

Dean Shiels put the visitors ahead with a rebound strike after Nicky Law had been denied by goalkeeper Ryan Goodfellow.

But Lewis Martin's header from Alex Whittle's corner levelled matters.

The Pars' Kerr Young and Rangers' Ian Black came close in the closing stages, but there was to be no winner.

Shiels fired Rangers ahead early in the second half

Dunfermline head into the promotion play-off semi-finals, where they will take on Stranraer over two legs, with the Pars travelling south for the first leg on Wednesday.

It was Ally McCoist's side who came closest in a quiet first half at East End Park, with Bilel Mohsni heading against the crossbar after Lee McCulloch had earlier drawn a save from Goodfellow.

The second half was less than a minute old when Rangers took the lead with Shiels on hand to convert following Law's saved strike.

Law then netted from Arnold Peralta's cross but an offside flag frustrated the visitors.

And Jim Jefferies' men were level when Martin rose well to nod home Whittle's delivery.

Young almost put the home side ahead when his header crept wide.

And Black came even closer to netting a decided when his shot deflected off John Potter and onto the post, with Rangers recording only their third draw of the season and their first away from home.
