QPR's poor start to the season continued as League Two side Burton Albion knocked them out of the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Harry Redknapp's team were thrashed 4-0 by Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday and were undone again when Adam McGurk curled in a 20-yard free-kick.

Junior Hoilett hit the crossbar before the break but overall QPR produced a lacklustre display.

Redknapp made nine changes and saw his second-string side punished by McGurk.

Moroccan Adel Taarabt, 16 months after his last appearance for the club, and former England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips were among those to come in for QPR.

But Burton - unbeaten this season - were not overawed by the Premier League outfit and McGurk tested Rangers goalkeeper Brian Murphy early on before Alex MacDonald twice drove across goal.

QPR's best moment came when Hoilett smashed a shot against the crossbar, but Burton got the goal they deserved after a crude challenge from Richard Dunne.

McGurk stepped up and clipped a fine curling shot over the wall and past Murphy to book a third-round tie with Brighton.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp on 大象传媒 Radio 5 live:

"You give players an opportunity and you hope they can take it. But they didn't take the opportunity tonight.

"Nobody wants to get beat. You want to win every game. We came here - I picked a strong team on paper - with senior players, but they were poor and didn't take the opportunity.

"We were short of quality tonight."
