Liverpool win dramatic WSL title

Liverpool Ladies striker Natasha Dowie hopes the club can go on to dominate the Women's Super League after securing back-to-back titles.

The Reds started the final day in third, but beat Bristol 3-0 while Chelsea and Birmingham both slipped up.

"Hopefully we can attract even more talented players and retain our title again," said Dowie.

"Arsenal did it for many, many years and that's what we want to do. We want to keep winning that title."

Before the Reds won their first title in 2013, Arsenal had been crowned champions of England nine times in a row.

"They've been a great team and still are a terrific side," added Dowie.

Liverpool won the title on goal difference on a dramatic final day in the WSL as their form in the second half of the season, which saw them win four of their last six games, helped them become champions.

Birmingham, who began the day second, could only draw 2-2 with Notts County, while leaders Chelsea lost 2-1 to Manchester City.

Dowie, Lucy Bronze and Fara Williams grabbed the goals to gave Liverpool victory, and Dowie said the day had been a strain on the team, with results elsewhere needing to go their way.

"First half we didn't really want to think about it, as it was a really hard situation to be in," said Dowie.

"We heard that Man City were winning 2-0 and that's kind of a booster straight away.

"Football is a crazy, crazy game. Sometimes I wonder why we play it but moments like this is why I play football."

Dowie also praised the support the team had received from the men's set-up at Anfield.

"The men have really backed us. They've put a lot of, not necessarily money, but support to the women," she added.

"The club has been unbelievable and the support has been so good and it's nice to pay them back."
