Morecambe captain Peter Murphy has been given the all-clear to continue knee rehabilitation, after recovering from a blood clot on his lung.

Murphy, 25, was already out with a cruciate ligament tear in his right knee, when he suffered a double pulmonary artery blockage in his lungs.

It came as a result of immobility from the knee injury, which he can now begin recovery from after treatment.

He is expected to see a haematologist at the end of the month for assessment.

Murphy health the priority - Bentley

"I made Peter my captain for all of the qualities he will now need as he works to get himself back to full fitness following such a horrendous setback," boss Jim Bentley

"It is great to have him back around the club on a daily basis so we can all support him."

Former Accrington and Wycombe defender Murphy joined the club in the summer, but was injured on his debut against Hartlepool in August.
