Cardiff City defender Ben Turner could miss the rest of the season because of an ankle injury.

The 27-year-old has returned to the Welsh capital from his loan spell with Coventry City for treatment.

Turner, who has a history of ankle injuries, was hurt during Coventry's 1-1 draw with Oldham on Saturday.

"He is under Cardiff's medical supervision now. He's probably facing an operation," said Coventry manager Tony Mowbray.

"It's a difficult one for him and our thoughts are with him because he was doing so well and looked as if he was back and ready."

Turner, who started his career at Coventry, has now suffered four ankle injuries in the past 16 months. He missed the first and last three months of last season, and suffered another set-back in pre-season that forced him to miss the beginning of this season.

All those problems were on his right ankle, while this latest injury is to his left ankle.

Turner joined the Sky Blues in November on a loan until 3 January, and was injured during his fifth appearance for the club.

Mowbray added: "I'm pretty sure early January he would have been recalled back to Cardiff and been competing to get into their side.

"It's huge disappointment for him and us of course, and for Cardiff."
