Stevenage have appointed Glenn Roeder as a managerial assistant to caretaker boss Darren Sarll.

Roeder started his managerial career at Gillingham, before spells with Watford, West Ham United, Newcastle and Norwich.

The 60-year-old was sacked by the Canaries in 2009 and left his last role as an advisor at Championship club Sheffield Wednesday in December 2015.

"Glenn will start today and will be at the heart of everything we do," Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace

"Darren Sarll is an excellent young coach who has the respect of the players and understands the DNA of the club, but obviously has limited experience as a professional manager.

"Rather than throw away his energy, dedication and skill set to get results, we are instead introducing top-level managerial experience and tuition to the management structure."

Stevenage are 22nd in League Two, having won just two of their eight games since Sarll took charge following the sacking of Teddy Sheringham in February.
